Social Media: Cook's Corner
Exciting News! We are about to become stars in the culinary world! We are going to produce our own digital cookbook and cooking show. This is a huge project, but we can handle the challenge! To accomplish our goals, we will all need to pitch in and work together.
We will be using some on-line tools to help us out. When you first use the tools, you may be asked to sign-up for an account. You are to PLEASE use your assigned username, assigned password, and school email account when you set up the accounts. (Thanks!)
Here's the plan:

Here's the plan:
- Research the Recipe: We have gathered some great text-based recipes for our weekly family-style meals. Each group will select a recipe and then search online for tips, tricks, and alternatives. You will collect those resources to share using Diigo, a social bookmarking site. These resources will be available not only to you, but to others who choose to join our Diigo group, which is called Cook's Corner.
- Photograph the Materials and Ingredients: Your next mission is to get all the materials (pans, utensils, bowls, gadgets...) and ingredients you will need to prepare the recipe. You will be taking digital pictures of each item and uploading them to flickr, a photo-sharing site, so that we can create a library of pictures to be used in future digital recipe creation. Here is the link to our flickr group page which is called The Cook's Corner. These pictures can also be used by other people making their own picture-based recipes. How cool is that?
- Assemble a Digital Recipe: We will use the pictures you've gathered to create a digital recipe slideshow, using PowerPoint and authorSTREAM, an online tool to convert our presentation into an embeddable video. We will include step-by-step instructions with pictures and a voice-over narration. Go to the CooksCorner authorSTREAM page and subscribe to the channel. You will then be able to upload your presentation to the channel. Here is a screenshot of the group page:
- Publish the Recipe: The video slideshow that you created using authorSTREAM will be published on wall.fm, a social networking site. You can post comments about your own recipes and you can add your own review of others' recipes right on the webpage. The Cook's Corner website is located at cookscorner.wall.fm
