File Management
Why Look at File Management?
Introduction | Why Look at File Management?
(Transcribed Text of Voki Recording to Left) Technology has revolutionized the way in which we can store information. We are now each able to store our own collections of data, images, videos, sound recordings, documents, applications, and links to even more sources of information. Sometimes we can lose track of what we have stored. It is best to set up a strong file management system as soon as you power up that computer for the first time, but if you’ve already amassed a large treasure trove of files you might do well to take the time and re-organize the files and folders now. Ultimately, having a highly organized filing system on your computer will save you loads of time in pinpointing the resources you need. You will also be able to free up disk space on your computer system and clean out all the unnecessary copies of files and the outdated materials. It should prove a good investment of your time! Introduction
(Transcribed Text of Voki Recording to Left) Organizing your computer's files and folders is a worthwhile investment of your time. Technology now makes it far easier to keep track of what resources you have. This will be especially helpful this year, as you begin to develop blended learning courses and as you pull together resources for your classrooms’ interactive white boards. This workshop will walk you through a sequence of steps to creating a filing system on your computer that can be efficiently used by you (and your colleagues) to access the digital resources you have created and gathered. The Windows 7 operating system has some easy-to-use features, designed to help you organize your computer's files. As Dunn & Cahlin (2002) explain: "You still have to spend time arranging your files, but knowing all of Windows' tricks will make the chore less, well, chorelike." Resources Dunn, S., & Cahlin, M.
