Technology for Students who are Gifted & Talented
Renzulli Learning
Renzulli Learning is a subscription-based website that collects resources from across the web, and combines them with information about individual student's interests, in order to create individualized learning plans. Renzulli Learning is designed to be used with all students, but evolved from research related to differentiation and curriculum compacting in the field of gifted education. The site is designed to create customized standards-based lessons that truly match an individual student's strengths, needs, interests, and learning style. Each student creates a Personal Success Plan to move them toward their goals.
Tools such as Renzulli Learning make it easier for the teacher to effectively differentiate the curriculum to meet the needs of all students, including the gifted and talented. The students will be able to access materials/activities that are of a suitable level of challenge and that are of personal interest to the student, while still addressing the state standards.
By beginning with an in-depth student profile which helps to identify learning styles, needs, and interests, the Renzulli Learning system helps to match students to appropriate learning resources. Such awareness helps to build self-determination skills. The Personal Success Plan helps the student to develop self-advocacy skills and executive functioning skills.

Telementoring
With telementoring (i.e. internet-based mentorships), gifted and talented students can access real-world experts and build connections. There are several sites that help teachers set up e-mentoring opportunities for their students. One such site is the International Telementor Program. Through this program, students can access an expert-in-the-field and can have a real-world audience for their work. The mentorship is set-up with clearly defined roles and expectations. Communication occurs within a secure online environment. Activities tend to be in-depth project based learning opportunities. Students are likely to be more invested in the projects, having an additional audience. Telementoring partnerships can help to forge a connection between the student(s) and professionals in the field of study. This access to real-world professionals helps the student to connect their research to the real-world.
